Dental Care During Summer

Summer has finally arrived once again and with it comes plenty of outdoor activities and fun. In this atmosphere of revelry and enjoyment, it become all too easy to forget about dental care and oral hygiene, especially for kids. We bring you some tips and tricks to ensure proper dental care during summer without putting a brakes to fun and games for you and your children.

Hydration –

Summers mean high temperatures, and high temperatures mean that your body will sweat more to keep cool. This in turn reduces the water content in the body, which can lead to a variety of complications including oral complications. Oral problems caused due to the lack of water include increased growth of pathogens and germs in the mouth, as well as bad breath. Lack of water can also lead to increased plaque and tartar deposits at the teeth and gums. Hence, it becomes imperative to have plenty of fluid at all times to stay topped up to ensure healthier and happier summers with no bad breath from dehydration.

Consuming Healthy Food –

As summers involve a lot of outdoor activity and fun, so healthy food is often ignored for food that is tasty and easy to eat, as well as readily available. While these food are fun to eat, they can cause significant damage to the teeth as well as other body parts if eaten in an uncontrolled manner. To avoid complications due to the over consumption of junk and sugary foods, it is always advised to carry healthy and delicious food such as fruits which enhance oral health as well as provide nourishment to the body. To make them more appealing to the children, you can mix and match and experiment with healthy food items to create recipes that are tasty as well as healthy. Proper diet can go a long way to ensure that you have a happy summer time without dealing with the complications associated with a tooth disorder.

Brushing and Flossing –

While your child is having fun at summer camp or any other outdoor activity, he or she can easily forget to practice their daily dental habits. This may cause a setback to their overall dental and oral hygiene, so it is extremely important for you to make sure that they stick to their routine of brushing and flossing every single day, before going to sleep at night and after waking up in the morning. They should also use toothpaste while brushing their teeth and floss thoroughly no matter how tired they are. This would also help to solidify good dental habits in them which would help them throughout their life. You can make this activity a fun activity for them by making brushing and flossing as a game or challenge for them to keep up with the theme of summer fun.

Visiting the Dentist –

Before planning for the fun activities which you intend to have with your child, it is important that you get them thoroughly examined by their dentist so that they can have a look whether any dental problems are lurking in the child’s mouth and inform them in advance. It would also prevent any oral incidents that may spoil the summer fun for your kid as well as give you the peace of mind about your child’s oral health.
