Pediatric Dentistry

Adorable and young Black girl sitting in a dental chair and smiling at her dentist and assistant.Your child's healthy teeth, gums, and overall oral health are part of a partnership. This partnership consists of the staff here at NC Pediatric Dentistry, amd you and your child need to do your parts as well. Good habits start at home, and they should last a lifetime. It is our job to make sure that everything is going the way that it should be going, and to correct any problems that we might find along the way. Here is what you need to know about pediatric dentistry.

Pediatric Dentistry: The Basics

While there is much more to what we do than what is mentioned below, here is some basic information on pediatric dentistry. Your child should come to see us for the first time before his or her first birthday. That way, we can start to establish a history for your child. We will examine your child's mouth during the first visit, but we will also use it as an information session for you, the parents. It is also important that your child gets used to coming to our office because many kids are afraid of the dentist without cause.

When your baby turns into a toddler, we will want to continue to monitor his or her mouth and check for proper growth. We will want to make sure that there is no crowding in the jaw, and that there are no impacted teeth. If your child is a thumb sucker or still uses a pacifier, we will talk with you about ways to eventually break those habits.

Pacifiers and sucking the thumb can cause the adult teeth to come in crooked. Even when your child starts to get older, you will still need to come in for regular visits. We will want to see how your child is transitioning from baby teeth to adult teeth. We will also make sure that your child's jaw is not crowded. We will check the bite as well. Sometimes children as young as six or seven need braces to correct a bite issue. Children love candy and other sweets, but all that sugar is not good for their teeth. Cavities are not uncommon in kids of most ages, so we will fill any cavities that we might find.

Our Relationship Grows With Your Child

Your child should not switch dentists just because he or she has all adult teeth. Your child already has a relationship with us and knows what to expect here. We will treat problems that older children might face such as tooth loss from sports or the need for braces. If your child plays sports, let us know so that we can create a custom-made mouthguard.

Another thing that we will handle is pediatric emergencies. We will take good care of your child.

Those are just a few things that you can expect from us here at NC Pediatric Dentistry. If you need to make an appointment, call us right away. The number of all our locations are listed below. Taking care of your child's teeth is a partnership, but we cannot do our part unless you make an appointment.
