Toothpillow

At NC Pediatric Dentistry, we are proud to provide Toothpillow, an innovative pre-orthodontic treatment for children ages 3–12. Developed by airway-focused dentists, Toothpillow is designed to support jaw growth, encourage nasal breathing, and improve overall health through non-surgical, preventative care.

What Is Toothpillow?

Tooth pillow review by one of our pediatric dentists.Toothpillow is a tele-health guided, preventative treatment that promotes healthy jaw and airway development. Children wear a custom-fit oral appliance for 1–2 hours during the day and overnight, which works in harmony with their natural growth cycle.

The system addresses the root causes of crooked teeth—such as underdeveloped jaws and mouth breathing—rather than simply treating symptoms. With the addition of myofunctional therapy, which retrains the tongue and oral muscles, Toothpillow can improve airway health, breathing, and development outcomes.

How the Toothpillow System Works

•  Guidance Appliance - Worn daily and overnight to guide natural jaw growth.
•  Myofunctional Therapy - Exercises to strengthen the tongue and oral muscles.
•  Nasal Breathing Support - Promoting proper airflow for healthier sleep and growth.
•  Remote Monitoring - Ongoing support from airway-trained dentists through the Toothpillow tele-health platform.
•  Professional Oversight - Care provided by licensed dentists with training in airway and dental sleep medicine.

Why Early Intervention Matters

Research shows that nearly 93% of children experience underdeveloped jaws, which can lead to mouth breathing, misaligned teeth, and airway restrictions. These issues may contribute to health, behavioral, and learning challenges if not addressed early.

With Toothpillow, parents can help their children avoid complications such as:

•  Sleep Disruptions - Including snoring, restless nights, or sleep-disordered breathing.

•  Behavioral Concerns - Difficulty focusing, irritability, or hyperactivity.

•  Dental Misalignment - Crowding, crossbites, or other alignment issues.

•  Health Challenges - Bedwetting, low energy, and other oxygen-related struggles.

FAQs

What age group is best for Toothpillow?

Toothpillow is most effective for children ages 3–12, when jaw growth and airway development can be guided naturally.

How long does Toothpillow treatment last?

Parents may notice changes in jaw development or bite within 3–6 months, with improvements in sleep and breathing typically seen after 6–9 months. Full treatment generally lasts around two years with consistent use.

Will my child still need braces after Toothpillow?
